Key Stage 3

The Importance of Physical Education

“PE develops pupils’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school” (QCA, 2008)

With the introduction of the new curriculum, personalised PE pathways are created for each pupil to follow. The needs of the individual are assessed and monitored through the completion of the physical literacy (fundamental movement skills) unit in September, after which pupils will follow a varied pathway, encompassing a range of themed units that teach the key processes and concepts in Physical Education which include:

  • Outwitting Opponents
  • Performing at maximum levels, in relation to speed, height, distance, strength or accuracy
  • Exercising safely and effectively to improve health and wellbeing
  • Exploring and communicating ideas, concepts and emotions
  • Accurate replication of actions, phrases and sequences
  • Identifying and solving problems to overcome challenges of an adventurous nature
Failsworth School has an inclusive PE curriculum at Failsworth School, pupils will have the opportunity to experience a variety of roles within their PE lessons:
  • Leader
  • Coach
  • Organiser
  • Official Organiser
  • Choreographer
