Supporting Positive Behaviour Policy

  • All students have a right to learn and no-one should prevent this happening
  • Good behaviour is essential in class and around the school grounds for all activities. Students are also deemed to be representing the school on the way to and from home
  • Bullying will not be tolerated at Failsworth School and must be reported to a member of staff swiftly so it can be dealt with. Failsworth School has a clear policy on bullying
  • Students are regularly reminded of the need for good behaviour through Assemblies, PAL, in Tutor Group and in lessons
  • For Health and Safety reasons, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, weapons, fireworks are strictly forbidden. Failure to follow this may lead to permanent exclusion. The Headteacher has devolved responsibility to senior staff who have the right to search students who they feel may be carrying illegal items. This will be carried out under the guidance of current legislation
  • For Health and Safety reasons mobile phones and MP3 players should not be seen or heard. If they are they will be confiscated and sent to the Headteacher
  • Only one pair of single stud earrings and a watch are permitted as items of jewellery. All other items will be confiscated and sent to the Headteacher
  • Clear expectations of behaviour are displayed in all classrooms and public areas in the form of the Behaviour for Learning Gold Medal
  • Failsworth School uses positive discipline by awarding credits to pupils who demonstrate good behaviour. These credits will be accumulated electronically
  • Students who have 95% attendance and collect credits whilst avoiding consequences attend Rewards Assemblies, half term rewards, a Christmas Extravaganza and end of term trips
  • Students who misbehave receive consequences. These consequences are numbered C1, C2, C3, C4 and they show an increase in seriousness. This is available for Parents to see in student diaries. Students will have incidents of misbehaviour recorded electronically
  • Deliberate damage to any part of the building or equipment could result in parent / carers being charged
  • If students choose to misbehave various sanctions are used. These include:
    - Privileges withdrawn
    - Detention with 24 hours notice at Lunchtime or after school as appropriate
    - Remove Room (up to 4 days)
    - Exclusion (for serious breaches of discipline)
  • Any student who has displayed poor behaviour which has meant being in the Remove Room and / or Excluded will not be allowed to go on school trips in that term or attend half term reward events
  • Support is offered in various forms by SEN staff, Pastoral Workers / Managers and a team of Learning Mentors
  • Students may be sent home to change into correct uniform and then they will be welcomed back into school. If this is not possible they will be placed in isolation.

It is our policy to contact parents promptly as problems arise and in serious breaches of discipline.
