Results of the Consultation

During the 2008 summer term, we asked pupils and staff what they thought could be done to make our new school the best place possible in order to learn, achieve, have fun and be excited by what was available.
Below are the collated results from this consultation and where we have got to in order to make these dreams a reality.
“We would like more food options, hot and cold drinks and possibly a money operated tuck shop”
Our school is in discussions with Kier as to the possibility of money operated vending machines that can offer more food options, healthy snacks and hot and cold drinks.

“We would like the Atrium to be developed and possibly have seats, music through the speakers, activities and even an indoor garden”
Meetings have taken place with a number of companies to look into options for benches for the Atrium with the possibility of planters. Ideas are also being formulated as to the development of an in-school radio station.

“We would like a wider variety of activities before school, at lunch and after school”
The Excel Programme (previously the Study Support Programme) is a new menu of exciting activities for our pupils to become involved with before and after school and also at lunch. Every pupil will be given a booklet of these activities and information will also be displayed on the Excel Programme notice board. New activities include: the Failsworth Reads and Writes clubs, DJing and MCing sessions, cyber cafes, a Boxing Academy, a Basketball Academy, Archery, 3 film clubs, an Eco-Schools club and much more.

“We would like more gardens and green space in school”
As you can now see, the landscaping of the school gardens is finished which gives everyone much more open space to relax and enjoy themselves in. An Eco-Schools club will also develop a plot of land in school for pupils to run environmental projects on, which will link with the local Grass Roots project at Propps Hall Primary School.

“Our school needs more bins”
We are sourcing a company that can provide suitable bins for the Atrium and ones to be placed around the outside of the school building.

“The plasma screens should be better used”
Working with our IT Department, we are looking to see how we can use the plasma screens better. Keep your eyes peeled for adverts, pictures and videos on selected screens around school... And even Failsworth School’s own TV station in the near future.

“Staggered lunches should be available for different years and there should be an activity afternoon every Wednesday”
Both these issues have been looked into, but with the current changes to the school timetable, these may be re-visited in the near future.

“We should have internet cafes at lunchtimes”
Every lunchtime in I1, there will be a supervised drop-in internet cafe session for people to relax, surf the web and have access to use more computers.

“There should be frosting on the lower half of the glass barriers on the first floor of school”
Unfortunately this will not be done in the near future.
