Connexions (Careers)

What is Connexions?
 Connexions is the national information, advice and guidance service for all 13-19 year olds in England. Every young person has access to a Personal Advisor.

Our aim is to enable all young people to fulfil their potential and make a successful start to their adult life by bringing together all the services they might need.

What do we offer in school?
Connexions adds to the support already offered by school staff through individual interviews or group sessions, in particular Connexions can help your son or daughter by;
  • Helping with GCSE subject options and vocational choice courses
  • Addressing problems that may be affecting school performance
  • Provide support for young people by considering all post-16 opportunities, including sixth forms, Further Education colleges and training providers
  • Thinking about future career opportunities, and organising work experience
  • Accessing personal development opportunities, including volunteering, arts and sports activities.
What if my son or daughter does not attend school or is educated at home?
If your son or daughter does not attend school for any reason they will still be able to access the Connexions service and have access to a Personal Advisor who will maintain contact with them, and provide them with the support they need.

Can Connexions help my son or daughter once they have left school?
During the time your son or daughter leaves school their Personal Advisor will contact them over the summer to ensure that their plans are going ok and support them further if required. We also have Personal Advisors based at the local colleges, 6th form college and linked to training providers in Oldham. Young people can also drop into the Connexions centre based on Union Street without an appointment. The centre is open from 9.00-5.00pm Monday to Friday with a late night on a Thursday until 7.00pm

We want to enable you to support your child through the decisions he or she will make over the next few years. You can contact your child’s Personal Advisor direct, attend guidance interviews and access the huge range of information available in the Connexions Centre.
