ICT Facilities
The department is very well equipped with cross platform machines. There are three suites of Apple Mac computers and there are five suites of PCs. Each suite is equipped with approximately 25 computers, an interactive whiteboard and laser printers. Pupils work on curriculum based networks and are able to use the IT facilities to support their studies in other subjects.
In addition to these facilities, there is the Learning Resources Centre which is also on the school network.
All pupils have access to the internet and this is accessed via broadband. The school also has a number of plasma screens and is also able to offer video conferencing.
Information Technology is a very expensive and high profile subject and the department is always aiming to be at the cutting edge of developments.
The department staff all have the use of Laptops to facilitate their lesson planning and delivery. Every room in the ICT department has an interactive whiteboard which allows the staff and the pupils to work together using these modern technological devices.
The software at the school is wide ranging, allowing pupils to experience both educational and industrial applications. The pupils use integrated software such as Microsoft Office and Appleworks. They use Flowol and Logo for control technology. Recently we have introduced GNVQ ICT and pupils are now looking forward to using the Macromedia suite of software to create and design their E portfolios.
The school has adopted a rolling replacement programme so that each year we are replacing one if not two of the ICT suites. We are looking forward to our move into a new school in 2007 and the chance that this will give us to have a great deal of new equipment.
