Exam Results 2008

Failsworth School is absolutely delighted to be able to congratulate its outgoing Y11 pupils who have broken all records for GCSE results for the school.

Failsworth's pupils posted the best set of results ever for the school, the third set of improving results.

The figure for 5 A*-C has risen by 12% to a phenomenal 67% - a magnificent achievement.  This is 8% above our predicted results, and puts us into the top 5% of schools in the country.

The figure for 5 A* - C with Maths and English has also risen by 12%, and is now well beyond what is expected of similar schools, and is just 1% below the top 5% of schools in the country.

Head Teacher, David Johnson said 'I am very proud of the hard work and commitment shown by our pupils and staff in achieving these results, and would like to thank the very committed support of parents.  We are a Sports College, and the team work ethic, alongside a pursuit of excellence which characterise our sports ethos, has reaped dividends.  I am very proud that all of our pupils gained a qualification, and only 9 out of 300 attained fewer than 5 qualifications.  These are simply magnificent results.'

There are many pupils to pick out in this sparkling set of results, including Rebekah Griffith, who attained 9A* out of 14 A*-Cs, Sadie Broxton with 6A* out of 12 A*-Cs, Philip Lavin with 9A* - Cs and Rachel and Rebbecca Erskine, each with 10 A*-Cs.  Pupils across the ability range have done well.  A new standard and a new challenge has been set for pupils of the future - and they have the ability to meet that challenge.

Well done to all.'
